Recently, I added a new song from local files but it won’t go over to my phone. I’ve followed all the steps like having them on the same WiFi, having them connected and stuff like that. I’ve even reinstalled Spotify on mobile and tried downloading the whole playlist multiple times but now I have lost all my local files on my phone.

For: Premium

1. On desktop, import your local files (with the ‘Desktop’ steps).
2. Add the files to a new playlist.
3. Log in on your mobile or tablet using the same WiFi as your desktop.
4. Go to Settings > Local Files and switch on Local audio files.
   Note: You need to allow Spotify to find devices in the prompt that shows.
5. Download the playlist with your local files.

Didn’t work?

Make sure:

• You’re logged in to the same account on both your desktop and mobile
• Your devices are connected to the same WiFi network
• The app is up-to-date on both devices
• Your device is up-to-date
• The Spotify app has access to your local network. Check in your iPhone/iPad settings under Spotify

For: Premium

4. Download the playlist with your local files.

1. Click , then Settings.
2. Scroll to Local Files and switch Show Local Files on.
3. Switch off any sources you don’t want.
4. Click ADD A SOURCE to select another folder.

Music from that folder is now in Local Files in the menu on the left.

Supported file types

Note: Some of your files may be protected in restricted formats. Install QuickTime on your computer to allow most of these tracks to be played on Spotify.

• .mp3
• .m4p (unless it contains video)
• .mp4 (if QuickTime is installed on your computer)

The iTunes lossless format (M4A) isn’t supported.

If your file isn’t supported, we do our best to match it with songs from the Spotify catalog. The version we match with might differ from the original.

You can quickly mark a few Spotify playlists and make them available offline directly from your phone — your computer doesn’t need to be on because you download tracks directly from Spotify’s own server.

Connect to a Wi-Fi network to do this procedure when possible, rather than 3G, because Wi-Fi is probably a lot faster and, depending on your data plan, should cost less, too.

Spotify Can’t Download Local Files

There’s an option in your settings that allows you to turn syncing over 2.5G/3G networks on or off to avoid unnecessary data costs. On the iPhone, go to Settings and ensure the Sync over 2G/3G switch is in the Off position (it appears gray, not green, when it’s set to Off). On Android, go to More→Settings and make sure Sync over 3G is unchecked.

Sync offline Spotify playlists by using the iPhone

To copy tracks on to your iPhone and listen to them later without a data connection, follow these steps:

1. Open Spotify on your mobile device.
2. Select Playlists at the bottom-left of the window to access a list of your playlists (if they don’t already appear), and then touch Edit at the top-right to enter Edit mode.
3. On the right side of each playlist while in Edit mode, you see the Sync symbol, represented by a down arrow. Any green sync symbol means the playlist has already been synced to your phone; if it’s gray, it isn’t available in Offline mode.
4. Mark any playlists you want to make available offline by tapping their gray symbols.
5. Any playlists you tap turn green.
6. When you finish selecting playlists, touch Done.
7. The syncing process begins, as long as you’re online and connected to Wi-Fi (if you’ve turned syncing over 2.5G/3G off in your settings).

You can also sync playlists while you’re actually in one. On the iPhone, swipe your finger across the silver Available Offline switch at the top-right of the screen to turn Offline mode on (or off). When on, the switch is green and says Yes. When off, it’s gray and says No.

Spotify Local Files Not Working

Sync offline Spotify playlists by using an Android device

To copy tracks onto your Android device and listen to them later without a data connection, follow these steps:

1. Log into the Spotify application to view all your playlists.
2. Touch the Edit Offline Playlists button to enter Spotify’s Edit mode.
3. Mark all the playlists you want to make available offline by selecting the check boxes next to their names.
4. Touch Done.
5. A blue progress bar appears next to the playlist name, and a green progress bar appears at the top of the screen, telling you how many songs you have left to sync.

Alternatively, when you’re in a playlist, follow these steps to sync that playlist for Offline mode:

1. Log into the Spotify application on your Android to view all your playlists.
2. Press and hold a playlist that you want to make available offline.
3. An Options pop-up window appears.
4. Select Available Offline.
5. The playlist starts syncing automatically.
